After reading these two essays, I've come to believe that is is very important to trust yourself. When you go with your gut feeling, often times you are correct and besides, you know what's right for you and what will make you happy. When you have a new idea don't hide it just because you think others won't like it! It's your life and you have to take charge!
Most of the time, people are fully capable of knowing what is best for themselves, but sometimes factors in life leave you feeling like something is right for you when in reality, it isn't. This is why I've come to the conclusion that while you must have trust in yourself you also need others around you that you trust and are willing to help you. There are many situations that can cause an individual to think irrationally and make bad decisions, hurting themselves and others. We all need a good, strong support system for our weakest moments.
I loved your phrase "When you have a new idea, don't hide it just because you think others won't like it!" It's brilliant and so true. I wish more people believed that and did it. It's a great spin off of the idea of "self-reliance" and trusting in yourself. Great post!
ReplyDeleteThis is a very true idea and I like it! :) I think Captain Ahab should take your advice because he's always worrying about things like that. For example in Moby Dick, he says, "Is Ahab Ahab? Is it I, God, or who, that lifts this arm?" Maybe if he started to believe more in himself and what he was doing then he could have suceeded in killing Moby Dick.
